Girraween National Park. We came here to enjoy some walking and to experience the peace and quiet of stopping in a remote area. We are at Terrawambella camping area, off grid and self reliant even though there are toilets and non potable water available.

After arriving the temperature cooled down in the evening so we walked around the camp areas seeing lots of Wallabies feeding on grassy areas.

Our first day walking we were up early to avoid the heat and did the northern walks to The Pyramid, Granite Arch and the Wyberba Walk. After lunch we drove back to see the Ballandean Pyramid. The day reached 39c and it didn’t cool down until a storm hit late in the evening.

The second day of walking was much cooler and an early start again. We headed along the southern trails to The Sphinx, Turtle Rock and Castle Rock. We walked, climbed and rested for 10.24km over 5 hours before returning to the caravan. By this time the wind had picked up and really were blowing. The temperature only got up to about 23c this day.

Of the walks The Pyramid and Castle Rock were class 4 walks and were very steep and difficult, but with Chris’s encouragement we both made it to the top of both. Three other walls were only class 3.
