Easter in Red Cliffs was very relaxing. We visited markets at both Mildura and Red Cliffs and visited the valley where Red Cliffs got its name.

Off to free camping for a couple of days. Found a lovely spot but realised that we could get into trouble if it rained too much. The forecast was possible showers up to 1mm. About lunchtime on the second day while we had lunch cooking in the camp oven we checked the radar and what was coming out way was a lot more that a light shower. We packed up and moved before the rain arrived, stopping on the side of the main road for our lunch.

Having left free camp early we booked into a caravan park in Renmark. Renmark was a scheduled stop to collect my glasses which broke and were sent back to the Sunny Coast for a warranty repair. I couldn’t fault Auspost as it was a 2 day turn around each way, arriving in Renmark much earlier than expected.

From Renmark we are touring the Riverland, visiting Berri on the way to the Overland Corner Hotel, our free camp for the night.

We free camped at the Apex Park campsite at Reedy Lake North of Kerang. A very pleasant stay. Just for one night.

We stopped at Lake Boga to check out the silo art before continuing to Swan Hill.

Only one night in a Swan Hill caravan park then onto free camping at Beggs Bend for a couple of nights.

People were starting to set up camp around us for the Easter long weekend after work in the evenings and will be arriving in force after we have left.

We are now at Red Cliffs Caravan Park near Mildura for Easter. It was very empty and quiet when we arrived. That’s now changed as all the others arrive for Easter.

We continued along the Murray River stopping at free camp on Lake Mulwala at Kyffins Reserve. We enjoyed five days here relaxing and exploring near by Yarrwonga and Mulwala.

We planned to move on the day the rains were forecast. Unfortunately the rain arrived a day early. We packed up between showers, spent the night and left as planned just a little wetter than expected.

We moved into a caravan park at Moama that is across the border from Echuca to recharge the batteries. It was well timed as after the rain we had a cold period where the heater was most welcome. We carried out some running repairs, replacing the sullage hose that was run over and crushed at Khancoban but someone while we were out.
Today we continue our journey along The Murray.

We have been free camping on the banks of the Murray River, New South Wales side then Victorian side since leaving the Snowy Mountains. Not in any rush so only travelled short distances. Now in a caravan park as the forecast is rain for the next week. The batteries were getting a bit low and the temperature has jumped so air-conditioning is welcomed. The swimming pool and spa have nothing to with it 🙄.

We had our stay in the Snowy’s at Khancoban Lakeside Caravan that is now owned and managed by a lady I worked with in the Sunshine Coast and her husband. We arrived on the Friday of the Labour Day long weekend which is a busy time for the Caravan Park.

We explored the village visiting the Information Centre where we picked up a 12 month pass to the NSW Parks (a park of being on the pension).

The next day we went visiting the Olsen’s and Scammell lookouts. Nothing is very close in the Snowy’s and the roads are extremely bendy but for the most part well maintained.

After the long weekend we drove too Thredbo, took a chair lift up the mountain, then walked about 13.5km return to the Mount Kosiosko summit at an altitude of 2,228m. We then enjoyed a gondola ride to see a bit more of Thredbo.

We enjoyed a dinner at The Alpine Inn before travelling to the Yarrangobilly Caves. We did a self guided tour of the South Glory Cave, had a swim in the Thermal Pool, and did a guided tour of the Jersey Caves. On the return we stopped for a bite to eat at the Bradley’s But rest area.

We drove 450km via Cowra where we stopped at the Japanese Gardens where we bought lunch. We didn’t pay to walk through the gardens as $22 per head we felt was a bit expensive. We stopped at Culcairn for the night, free camping behind the Bowling and Recreation Club which was closed on the day.

Next day we drove another 350km taking a more scenic route to Healesville in Victoria. We drove through an area that recently had a major bushfire around the Mansfield and Alexandra areas. Everywhere was burned and blackened, many trees had been felled either by the fire or to clear damaged ones from the road.

We spent time in Healesville, buying an extra water hose as ours was not long enough for our site, a replacement sink plug as ours fell apart and the bottom fell down the drain into the water tank, and we stocked up on supplies.

The main attraction for stopping is the Healesville Sanctuary which we spent a day going around. It was spectacular and a must for anyone’s bucket list. We walked our legs off.

First day we went to the information Centre to learn where to go and what to see them shopping to to up our supplies.

Second day we took the dirt road into the Wollemi National Park to the Glowworm Tunnel and lookout. On the return drive we stopped off to view the Lost City, rock formations that resembles stone houses, buildings and ruins.

Friday we drove to Katoomba and went to Scenic World to view the Blues Mountains and The Three Sisters. We walked from the Eastern Terminal of the Scenic Skyway to Echo Point and back for a better view of The Three Sisters.

Next day we drove up to Hassans Wall Lookout but there was so much cloud / fog there was no view to enjoy.

We arrived during the heat of a 39c day. Mark, the caretaker, met us with suggestions where to camp. We set up camp on, as the name suggests, the side of a hill. First time using the bottle jack to raise the “A” frame so the jockey wheel could be repositioned to level the van. No power or water to the van but tank water, shower and toilets are available.

I experimented with the drone when it cooled down to get it to creat a video automatically. I selected the starting position, identified the subject and pressed start. What do you think of the result?

The owner, Dawn took us for a drive around the property and the views are amazing from the top of the hill.

The following day we went went sight seeing and saw the Big Golden Guitar at the Visitor’s Information Centre and the Big Horse at the Stockman’s Motel.

We the went to the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC) to look at the largest Performance Horse Sale in Southern Hemisphere where they sold 8,250 horses over a week.

We then went into Tamworth City Centre to look at some of the Bronze statues in Peel St and get some lunch. On the way back to the farm we had a look in the Country Music Hall of Fame which was very quiet. Their busy time was last month when they music festival was on.

A very quiet and peaceful town and we are staying at the show ground. There are a few things to see here: the Australian standing stones and the Glen Innes Highlands Skywalk.

The one thing that there is here is very pleasant coffee shops for nice coffee with breakfast.
