Our Rig and Weights

Here is our rig sitting nicely on the road

We drove to Caboolture to get axle weights so that we could confirm the load and calculate correct tire pressures. All weights are good and the information will assist us redistributing the load as needed.

Our Towing Vehicle

With us deciding to choose a lighter caravan this time around, we were aware that the load capacity would be reduced. With this in mind we selected a Ute with a canopy for towing so that the heavier equipment could be carried in it. we purchased a Ford Ranger Ute that is an ex-government vehicle,

Since the Ute came with warning lights, warning sign and work lights, we had these removed as thew were not required for our purpose. We then installed the following to better suite our requirements,

a 132ah Li Battery
a Solar Panel
a Battery Management System to charge the battery from solar or the vehicle’s alternator
a portable Car Fridge/Freezer
a 3.2Kva generator for 240v power for the caravan
a Starlink Mini to ensure we have internet and mobile phone coverage during our travels.

For this adventure we purchased a new Snowy River SCR19 caravan with several modification for spending more time off grid. Below is plans of the internal layout and the colour scheme chose.

We have had the following changes made to the standard SRC19 build.

pantry doors at the entry
drawers under the seats
drawers in the bathroom
shelves in some of the cupboards
front window
upgrade to 200ah battery
full inverter setup for off grid
